Folks from Actus Lend Lease, Big Brothers Big Sisters and six Waipahu High School students gathered at Max’s Restaurant in Waipahu Feb. 7 to kick off a pilot project headed up by BBBS in which mentors from Actus guide the students in learning about the construction industry. Mentoring sessions will be conducted through the school year at Waipahu High School for the “really motivated” five seniors and one freshman who signed up for the extra curricular program which meets every other week. “Actus Lend Lease is going to give the students a two-week paid internship after they complete the program,” said BBBS case manager Tyler Kurashige. BBBS hopes to expand mentorship programs into other career fields and into other high schools.
