Graduation for Summer Interns

Long after graduation season ended, July 22 marked a different sort of graduation. It was the end of a six-week summer internship for about 40 students of Hawaiian descent. The joint venture between Marriott “Spirit to Serve Our Communities” and Queen Liliuokalani Children’s Center placed the high school and college students in intern positions at Ihilani Resort and Spa, Ko Olina Beach Club and Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa, giving them firsthand experience in the resort industry. The ceremony brought together the interns, their families and general managers (Steve Glen of Ihilani and Chad Jensen of Ko Olina), along with officials from the Children’s Center in a grand celebration.
