Del.icio.usSocks, Sandman, Britches, Shiloh ... No, these aren’t the newest batch of Hollywood babies to get an unusual moniker. These names belong to a few of the horses tearing up the dirt at the Diamond J Ranch in Waianae during the Hawaii Women’s Rodeo Association’s most recent Jackpot Rodeo. Founded in 1992, the HWRA is committed to preserving the rich culture and heritage of the Hawaiian paniolo. The organization sponsors six “Jackpot” rodeos annually and has welcomed the newly formed Leeward Pilot Club to its events as a way of promoting increased use of safety helmets by the young ‘uns who participate in high-risk equestrian sports.
