About 60 VIP guests lined up the evening of Jan. 3 for a taste of the new Taco Del Mar in Kapolei (338 Kamokila Blvd.), a day before it opened to the public. “The quality of food and quantities that are served, at affordable prices” convinced master developer Ken Nascimento the store would be a hit in Hawaii. “It’s been even better than I anticipated,” said Nascimento, whose Kunia franchise opened Nov. 17 with the chain’s second highest sales for opening day nationwide. The Kapolei eatery sports a Hawaii-Baja surf theme, with surf photos, a grass shack stand, beach music and surf videos. The salsa and guacamole are made fresh daily, and the store also caters. A Waipio store is slated to open late next month.
