Varona Village has found pride in itself since residents first rolled up their sleeves to attack piles of trash back in 1999. When volunteers came out this year, they did it again - cleaning up after the mess left by others. As the Ewa Clean and Green Patrol, they came prepared to remove appliances, trash and other debris. The plan for Aug. 25 was to also paint the bus stop, clean within the village, pick up litter and cut down dried brush. Armed with gardening gloves, rakes, gardening tools and wheel-barrows, they engaged in battle all morning. Teenagers have since taken over the leadership of the cleanups, which are co-sponsored by Ewa Weed and Seed, the Hawaiian Railway Society and Hawaii’s Plantation Village.
