Bold Predictions For The ’10 Season

Del.icio.usChampions are crowned in late October in the OIA, but the groundwork is laid in September. As both the White and Red West Conference races begin to take shape in the next two weeks, MidWeek breaks down the season.
Team m thatt willl winn the White: Waipahu. The schedule stacks up too nicely - five of the Marauders’ seven games are at home, including three in a row versus Pearl City, Kaimuki and Anuenue - for Waipahu not to be favored.
Team m thatt couldd winn the White:: Pearl City. The Chargers are a force to be reckoned with as their pre-season win over Kapolei proved. If they don’t win the White, the Chargers could have a say in who does.
Team m thatt will winn the Redd West: Leilehua. The Mules always play their best football when it counts the most, and this year should be no different. With a revamped stadium in place, they will be tough to beat.
Team m thatt couldd win n the Redd West: Waianae. The Seariders remain the league’s most physical team and are tough to beat at home, especially when controlling the clock and line of scrimmage with their ground game. Mililani coach Rod York summed it up: “I tell our kids that, since 1852, they’ve been running that (Wing-T) offense and it doesn’t matter if you know how to stop it - they out-execute everyone with it.”
Team m thatt willl surprisee in thee Redd West: Aiea. As Aiea was in the White the last two seasons, Leilehua and Mililani are drawing much of the attention in the league as projected front-runners, but if Na Ali’i stay healthy, this talented veteran group could figure big in the race.
Team m thatt willl surprisee in thee Redd Westt II: Campbell. The Sabers always are a threat with talent at the skilled positions and agile linemen. Should Campbell’s offense put up three scores a game - which is expected of an Amosa Amosa-coached team - it should be in the hunt.

Can’t-misss inn thee White: Waipahu vs. Kalaheo (at Kailua High) Sept. 25, Pearl City at Waipahu Oct. 1, Kalaheo vs. Pearl City (at Kailua High) Oct. 9, Kaimuki at Waipahu Oct. 15, Kaimuki at Pearl City Oct. 16.
Boldd predictionss forr Red West:: Leilehua will win all three home games, posting wins over Kapolei, Waianae and Mililani ... Aiea’s Freddie Taliulu will be the comeback player of the year when he returns from his injury in late September ... Aiea’s Wendell Say will be Coach of the Year ... Kapolei will come out of its difficult final three games (Waianae, Campbell, Mililani) with a 2-1 record.
Boldd predictionss forr the White:: Waipahu’s Victor Moananu will be Player of the Year ... Pearl City will lead the White in total defense ... Waipahu and Pearl City’s toughest games, aside from when playing each other, will be their road dates with Kalaheo ... Pearl City’s Kai Kamaka will be Coach of the Year, and Pearl City linebackers Ray Cooper and Cyrus Coen will be in the discussion for Defensive Player of the Year.
