Some of Hawaii’s most talented artists will come together to celebrate their gifts and passion for art at Gallery `Iolani’s Aloha Ho`omaluhia 25.
Running from April 14 to May 10 with a reception from 4 to 7 p.m. April 17, the free exhibit is a retrospective by 47 artists who have all played a role in the show since its inception 25 years ago. It celebrates the sublime beauty of nature while simultaneously addressing the fragility of the ecosystem.
Ho`omaluhia translates as to make a place of peace and tranquility.
In 1985, its founding members John Wisnosky, Adella Buss, Jonathan Busse, Michel Kaiser and Noreen Naughton were inspired by the beauty of Kaneohe’s Ho`omaluhia Botanical Garden and the construction of the H-3 freeway that threatened to disturb the garden’s peaceful surroundings.
The WCC gallery is open from 1 to 5 p.m. weekdays and Sunday, and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
