Bookmobile Will Debut At Seafood Fest

It will be another weekend of fresh fish, tasty shrimp and culinary masterpieces prepared by some of Hawaii’s most respected chefs Oct. 10-11 at the fourth annual Seafood Festival at Turtle Bay Resort.
Making an appearance for the first time is the Kahuku Bookmobile, a library project that is supported by the festival’s silent auction proceeds. It will be a nice addition to the recent $14,000 donation made by a family that lives part-time at Turtle Bay Ocean Villas. The gift will be used to install bookshelves and appropriate signage on the vehicle, which has been parked at Hauula Kai Center.
Just as in years past, sponsor Benchmark Hospitality International employees have collected memorabilia from famous guests and suppliers to sell at the auction with the goal to raise enough to cover all operating costs for the mobile library service for the following year.
Guests can also enjoy the famous Taste of the North Shore Shrimp Trucks at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10. Admission is $35, which includes a sampling of dishes from each truck to the music of Kapena.
The Sam Choy Poke Contest starts at sunrise Oct. 11, when pro and amateur chefs from around the world compete for top poke honors plus a professional prize of $1,200 plus gifts, and a top amateur prize of $1,000 plus gifts. Contestants will start on their dishes at 6 a.m., judging begins at 9 a.m., and doors open to the public at 10:30. Program begins at 10:45 and concludes with the winner announcement at 11:45. Tickets cost $25.
Executive Chef ‘s Seafood Under The Stars is the finale at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 11, featuring food stations operated by Hawaii’s finest chefs, including Hector
Morals, John Armstrong, Rodman Machado, Sam Choy, Fred DeAngelo and D.K. Kodama. The Ka’ala Boys will entertain. Tickets cost $75.
