Thanks to some hard work by Hina Mauka and ‘Olelo Community Television, the HBO Addiction series is getting an encore showing on the public access TV channel, ‘Olelo 49, throughout January.
Ten of the 14 episodes began airing Jan. 7 and will continue through Jan. 30, Tuesdays through Fridays. Each show starts at 5 p.m., except for the Jan. 20 episode which starts at 4:30 p.m.
Addiction demystifies substance abuse and the recovery process, showing personal stories of individuals, learning the science and research behind effective treatment from experts in the medical field and more. Hina Mauka first aired the series in November and is excited to show it again this month.
“It’s really an exciting series,” said Andy Anderson, community and alumni relations for Hina Mauka. “We saw the series when it came out the first time. We contacted HBO four or five months before we were able to finalize it, with ‘Olelo’s help. HBO was very positive about all the feedback from all the communities that viewed it. They were very happy to do it. I think we’re the first community to do this.”
Anderson said Hina Mauka’s goal in airing the program is to bring something to the community that is beneficial to families, people with addiction, employers, agencies, legislators and more.
“The real benefit is it presents a lot of very useful information to a lot of entities in the community,” he explained.
