Known as Sunset in the Park when it debuted in Kailua six years ago, the weekend family festival is back, and the Kailua Mustangs Pop Warner Association has teamed up with the city to make it all happen.

Re-Discover Kailua is from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday at Kailua District Park. And if all goes as it did last time - bringing in at least 25,000 people per day - the Pop Warner volunteers will have their hands full, beginning with a drop-off service.

Players will assist in the drop-off zone, which will allow children and seniors to be dropped off right at the district park lot. The players also will play three games Saturday and three games Sunday.

To help sustain their energy, plenty of food booths are planned, including Kailua Mustangs Boosters, Mark’s Specialties, Alessandra’s Lumpia Express, Aloha Salads, Chip & Cookie, Hawaiian Style Chili Company, Crepes No Ka ‘Oi, 100% Hawaiian, Saeng’s Thai Cuisine, Table 17, Slush Puppie Hawaii, Time 2 Grind, Cold Stone Creamery and Big City Diner.

Theme is E hoe aku i ka wa’a (paddle the canoe, keep moving forward, honoring the generosity of Kailua’s volunteer-driven organizations that keep community service alive and well.

Entertainment begins at 3 p.m. with hula and Hawaiian, classic and contemporary music, and numerous craft vendors will offer Hawaiian print tablecloths, washable body art, handmade whipped soaps, feather lei and much more.

Topping off each day is a movie that will begin at dusk: The Game Plan with The Rock is Saturday and Enchanted is Sunday.

A toddler play area, photo booth, inflatable bouncers and rides also are planned, and the park swimming pool will also be open to enjoy.
