A dozen Windward residents have been rehearsing for “In Memoriam, 9/11/2001,” which will be presented this weekend by the Oahu Choral Society at St. Andrew’s Cathedral.
Windward Choral Society founder and director Susan Duprey also directs the Kona Music Society, which will join the Honolulu Symphony Chorus and musicians from the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra at the memorial concert.
Raising their voices for the 10th anniversary of the tragic 9/11 attacks are Laie’s Anna Mooy, the concert’s mezzo soprano soloist; Kailua’s Peggy-Ann Siegmund, Clara Richard, Thomas Bopp, Chris Suzuki, Very Stahlberger, Mary McEldowney and Dianne Brookins; and Kaneohe’s John and Anne Flanigan, Maarit Tiirikainen, Beth Flint, Stephen Foster and Poncy Amodo.
“The Kona singers will only be here for the last rehearsal,” explained McEldowney. “The real challenge is to get 110 singers and 26 musicians in the altar area of St. Andrew’s.”
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $20 and $15 and may be purchased at the door, at 7354311 or oahuchoral.org.
“In Memoriam” features soloists Georgine Stark, Guy Merola, Nicholas Walters and Mooy. Esther Yoo will conduct the orchestra.
