It has a long name but delivers a simple message: Watch out for each other.
The Windward Oahu Neighborhood Security Watch Coordinators Group will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden to brainstorm how to get the word out and draw more residents into the national crime-watch system that’s helping prevent and reduce crime right where we live.
“There’s a lot to learn about keeping your neighborhood safe,” said group president Carlene MacPherson, “plus HPD will be there to answer questions and take concerns/tips. All Windward Oahu residents are invited to attend.”
Serving with MacPherson on the board of directors are vice president Judy Mathis, treasurer Clayton Tm and secretary Moana Kaluau.
For more information, call police Sgt. Duane Samson at 723-8874 or at the Kailua Police Station, 262-6555.
Guest speakers at Saturday’s gathering will demonstrate how to establish Internet groups and set up secure contact and information pages, as well as provide personal assistance to attendees. Remington College officials will be there to see how they can best involve students in their criminal justice classes in the crime-watch effort.
The group meets every other month at Ho’omaluhia and is actively recruiting more members. “We are hoping to be more pro-active, as most of our members come to us after something has happened,” added MacPherson.
