Bluegrass Music Will Echo Against Koolaus

Bluegrass in the Koolaus returns to Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden Sept. 9 to 11 to showcase homegrown and traditional music in a fun, informal style.

Sponsored by Bluegrass Hawaii, the free program features performance, songwriting and vocal workshops; a Saturday night campfire and a Sunday morning gospel. The Saloon Pilots, a Kailua-based bluegrass group, also will play and then run a workshop on band dynamics following their show.

“The event will include a band scramble, hugely popular at the past three Ho’omaluhia events,” said Caroline Wright, founder of Bluegrass Hawaii. “For this activity, all jammers who are willing to participate are grouped into ‘bands,’ given time to choose a tune and rehearse it, and then perform before an appreciative and forgiving audience.”
