New and old officers now lead the board of directors for Kahuku Village Association (KVA), a nonprofit that represents the interests of more than 100 tenant families who own or rent homes on former sugar mill lands.
The association recently re-elected secretary Leslie Llanos to a two-year term, gained a new director in second vice president Ben Baligad, and also chose president Noreen Cristobal, first vice president Jimmy Leonardi and treasurer Jim Camit. There were no opposing candidates.
“These tenants face difficult decisions and choices in the months ahead, and we will do everything we can on their behalf,” pledged Cristobal, “just as we have for other sugar mill families in Kahuku.”
The villagers must now negotiate with landowner Continental Pacific’s new property manager from the position of month-tomonth ground leases, which began in 2000. The homes are near Kahuku Golf Course and makai of the high school.
