Castle Performing Arts Center showcases Shakespeare’s classic tragedy Macbeth at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28-29 and at 3 p.m. Oct. 30 in Ron Bright Theatre.
The 30-member cast comes from nine different island schools and has been rehearsing three nights a week and all day Saturday for three months. The play also features sword fights choreographed by fight director Tony Pisculli of Kailua. By teaching the basic techniques of stage combat, the students will make use of real swords which are not sharpened.
“We were looking for a substituted play, and one day two seniors, Alex BoppWhyne and Emily Morrison, did a scene from Macbeth and they were just awesome,” explained director Karen Meyer. “That’s how the play got started, because I have an amazing Macbeth (Bopp-Whyne).”
Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s better-known tragedies and offers themes of greed, power, deception and treachery. The story deals with the great Scottish general Macbeth who kills everyone who gets in his way of becoming king.
General admission is $10 and tickets for students, seniors and military cost $6. Tickets also can be purchased online at showTix4U.com.
