Public comments are due by March 24 on the draft environmental statement for Kapaa Light Industrial Park, which would be developed incrementally over an 18-year period.

The current 22-acre park is zoned I-2 (intensive industrial district), and the expansion would reach into two adjacent parcels that are within the P-2 (general preservation) district. The land includes 11 acres to the west by the H-3 freeway and 44 acres to the east, just across Kapaa Quarry Road from the marsh.

The draft EIS addresses watershed concerns, traffic, erosion, view plane, pollution and other impacts.

Owner John King stated earlier that he wants to provide modern warehouse space for new and established businesses to meet increased demand and improve the economic base. Not all of the new land would be developed.
