There’s a new train chugging on the Windward side - and no, it has nothing to do with the city rail project.

Windward Mall welcomed its new Cubby Caboose Mini Express Train last week as a way for kids (and the occasional kid at heart) to ride along with a polar bear from the North Pole named Cubby. The train traverses part the mall’s lower level during shopping hours beginning at the Sears Wing near the food court. Tickets cost $3 for both children and adults.

The train launch coincides with a collection of new businesses that have “pulled into the station.” They include national restaurant chain Gyu-Kaku, Toys “R” Us Express, Tax Busters and local start-up SoulTrex.

SoulTrex hit the ground running with its selection of quality, eco-friendly equipment and apparel for outdoorsmen. The store caters to hikers, climbers, campers, bikers or water sports fans. Billing itself as the only “complete” outdoor activity store on the Windward side, its staff is well-versed in equipment standards and procedures as well as tips on where customers can safely use its products.

According to owner Jacinda Elias, SoulTrex has numerous shopper discount programs as well as a climbing wall they can scale while perusing the merchandise. More details are available at SoulTrexInc.com. Those who “Like” and comment on the company’s Facebook page (search SoulTrex Inc.) will be automatically entered to win prizes from the store.
