I attend Le Jardin Academy in Kailua and am also a part of our LJA news team. One of the most exciting things happened to our school Nov. 4: A popular TV show called Hawaii Five-0 came here to shoot part of the show!
It was a great experience for everyone especially the LJA news team. We got to go behind the scenes, interview the actors and look at the set of the show. Everyone on the news team got a chance to do things that most people would not be able to do.
At 7 a.m. we checked out the set of the show. First, we visited the hair and makeup studio. We saw Danny’s stunt double’s wig, ate with the crew and watched how a TV show was created. Then, we went over to the basketball courts where we saw Alex’s dog. After that we went inside a classroom to see the set.
Inside there were lots of cameras and wires. We met some people who helped with the cameras and sound. We watched the actors shoot the scene! One time, when they were rehearsing, Chin-ho got locked outside of the classroom door. After that, we were allowed to interview Daniel Dae Kim. He was very nice. I had a fun time on the set and enjoy being on the LJA news team.
(Editor’s note: The filming reported by fifth-grader Olivia Yoshida aired in the Dec. 5 episode, which included the kidnapping of a bus full of children and glimpses of the LJA campus.
The grade 5 news team, guided by Cynthia Manley and equipped with new Tshirts and press passes, also has interviewed Kailua merchants and reported on Kawainui Marsh and other projects.)
