Local artists Hiroshi Tagami and Michael Powell will greet visitors and display their latest oil paintings this weekend at their gallery in Kahaluu. The two-day exhibit will mark 25 years of painting together and also celebrate Tagami’s 83rd birthday.

Their exhibit runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at their Kahaluu Garden & Gallery, 47-754 Lamaula Road. No appointment is needed during the sale, and the public is invited.

Tagami’s body of work numbers more than 6,000 paintings, which hang in public and private collections around the world. As an amateur horticulturist he also planted and landscaped much of the gallery’s tranquil grounds, which once served as their home.

Powell left a corporate career to study painting under Tagami and has become a respected artist of Hawaii landscapes and seascapes in his own right.

Guest artists at the show are Florence Miyano and Babs Miyano-Young (jewelry), Lois Tselentis and Kenny Kicklighter (ceramics), Nathan Yuen (prints and note cards), Bud Spindt (glass) and Bryan Watai (pen and ink).
