Editor:

Recent flash floods eroded the reconstruction of the ancient and historic Ulupo Heiau pathway, making it unsafe to walk on.

Although the pathway belongs to Windward YMCA, they and State Parks don’t have the money to repair the pathway and so rely on its curators, Ahahui Malama I Ka Lokahi and Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club, to plan and seek donations for the pathway repair work.

Businesses, community organizations and individuals in Kailua have responded with donations of rocks, gravel, mason sand, cement, machinery and volunteer labor worth $35,000 to help the YMCA repair its pathway. We appreciate the donations from Ameron, All Pool and Spa, Joe Correa Construction, All Trees Landscaping, the Oahu, Hawaii Youth and Women’s community correctional centers; and many other individuals in this Kailua community effort.

The work projects began June 24 and the pathway reconstruction June 25.
