Kapunahala Elementary School invites the public to join its Read Aloud Program (RAP) night from 5:30 to 7:45 tonight (March 30) in its cafeteria and classrooms.
Designed to make reading fun for families, the event begins with snacks, drinks and registration at 5:30 p.m., accompanied by live music from Kahaluu band Kupa’aina.
At 6 p.m. are introductory activities, followed by reading sessions, where children will read with adults, and volunteer readers will share children’s stories. At 7:10, it’s time for pizza dinner and prizes.
The ultimate goal is to get keiki comfortable with books and draw their parents into the excitement reading together can bring and nurture lifelong readers, said Tricia Ching, volunteer coordinator for RAP, which is part of Read Aloud America. RAA is set to lose its entire federal TANF funding base as of April 1.
The program serves Title 1 schools statewide. To offer help, call 529-9937.
