Music students at Enchanted Lake Elementary School are pinning their hopes on a two-minute video to keep their program alive.

The school ensemble, directed by Gail Yoneshige, has no budget, so parents searched out the “GLEE: Give a Note” contest and went to work. The contest will split $1 million among 73 schools across the nation who garner the most online votes for their videos. Public balloting ends Nov. 7.

Yoneshige directed the video of the students as they explain and demonstrate how valuable music is to themselves and their school.

“We have a very talented music teacher,” said parent Rebecca Provencal, “but if something needs repair maintenance or replacing, there’s no money for it in the school budget.” She urges everyone to go to the contest website, where they can vote once each day for their favorite ELES singers. The address is gleegiveanote.com.

“We are asking for the people of Hawaii to vote to keep music programs alive and well in their public schools,” Provencal added. “It will really help if supporters vote for their favorite Hawaiian school daily!

“We could really use some more votes.”
