Kaneohe library is fortunate to lay claim to an award-winning children’s librarian.

Curt Fukumoto, who was named the 2010 Hawaii State Library Employee of the Year and the Librarian of the Year, moved from Salt Lake-Moanalua library to Kaneohe about four months ago.

The library has been benefitting from his unique and very popular story time, which involves a lot more than just opening a book. Preschoolers and their caregivers pour into the room to take part in the fun as Fukumoto embellishes his stories with puppets (some he even makes himself), guitar-playing, shadow boards, crafts and more.

The next “Storytime with Curt Fukumoto” begins at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, with all the action geared to keiki ages 2 to 5.

For more information about upcoming story hours or the library’s summer reading program, also organized by Fukumoto, call the library at 233-5676
