Laie Youths’ Cookie Art Graces City Hall

Way back in the summer, keiki in city parks programs islandwide were already dreaming of sugar plums and drawing gingerbread men for the city’s Christmas display at Honolulu Hale, which opened last weekend.
Drawings from four children at Laie Summer Fun were selected in the Mayor’s new Winter Ornament Cookie Cutter Art Contest, and they will adorn five, 10-foot-high, three-dimensional Christmas cookies for a display on the lawn. Laie’s artists are Ciara Horomona, Amber Lynn Leota, Letau Polvado and Keahi Rivera.
The children were asked to color outlined shapes of cookies (a star, snowman, tree and gingerbread man), and the winning entries were enlarged and attached to the giant cookies. The young winners 10 in all, ages 6 to 13 visited Santa’s Workshop Nov. 16 in a Pearl City warehouse to see their work installed.
