Lanikai Mortgage Players will present their rendition of The Belles of St. Swindlers, or Will She Disrobe for the Wrong M.D.? Friday through Sunday and May 27-29.

Curtain time for the spring melodrama is 8 each night at the Nelson & Lucille Shreve Theater, located in the makai corner of Lanikai Community Park. Admission is $7, including popcorn.

Written by the late Nelson Shreve and presented under the direction of Carol Nichols and Alan Shepard, the play offers a peek into the life of insane asylum patients - something rarely seen on stage. Romance, comedy and fun ensue, preceded by an olio show featuring a hodgepodge of musical and theatrical vignettes.

The Mortgage Players were named after the acting troupe that began performing in the mid-1900s as a way to pay the mortgage on the parcel of land that still remains home to the community association. The land now features a playground, basketball court, baseball backstop, long house (which Lanikai Canoe Club and others call home) and a grass field.
