Le Jardin Academy has gone from a tiny preschool nestled between Pali Highway and Kawainui wetlands to a world-class academy able to prepare students through grade 12 for secondary education.
On March 28, the Hawaii State House of Representatives honored Le Jardin at the state Capitol for being designated Hawaii’s first International Baccalaureate World School.
State Reps. Cynthia Thielen (Dist. 50, KailuaKaneohe Bay) and Chris Lee (Dist. 51, KailuaWaimanalo) co-sponsored the event, which also celebrated the school’s 50th anniversary.
“As legislators, we are very proud of the many outstanding accomplishments Le Jardin Academy has made in the past 50 years, and honored to recognize the administrators, faculty, families and students of Le Jardin Academy for their hard work and perseverance,” Thielen said.
The distinction of being compliant with the International Baccalaureate program means Le Jardin has instituted a multi-tiered program for students to follow and fosters a positive attitude toward learning with an emphasis on international-mindedness.
“From humble beginnings as a small preschool to the current state-ofthe-art campus (with a) full-size gymnasium, athletic fields and 48 classrooms,” Thielen said, “Le Jardin has always been an icon of inspiration for Hawaii’s educational community.”
