Aloha Aina Earth Day comes to Kaneohe from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Windward Auto Spa, offering unlimited collection of computers and e-waste, as well as a wide variety of other items and canned goods for Hawaii Foodbank.

The drive is a fundraiser for Hawaii Lions District 50 and also an opportunity to clean up the community. For curbside pickup and free towing of unwanted cars and other details, call Rene Mansho at 306-1876. The auto spa is located at 46-151 Kahuhipa St.

Participants include a partnership of 20 recyclers and businesses and area lawmakers as well as local Lions clubs. Residents can bring all kinds of metal, paper, appliances and old bulky things to the center, including HI-5 containers, corrugated cardboard, egg cartons, cell phones, printer cartridges, cooking oil, phone books and magazines, batteries, green waste, fire extinguishers, propane tanks and plastic bags. Goodwill will accept usable clothing; Lions clubs will recycle eye glasses and hearing aids. People also may exchange two incandescent light bulbs for two CFLs.

No tires, TV sets, paint, microwave ovens, motor oil, hazardous fluids or gas tanks will be accepted.

The drive is coordinated by Mansho of Schnitzer Steel, a metal recycler in Campbell Industrial Park that, with others, will give its cash proceeds from recycled waste to the Lions for their community service efforts.
