There is a youth movement rising at Hope Chapel Olomana in Kailua.

Starting at 9:30 p.m. Friday, the church’s Art & Music Showcase will feature young artists’ displays, music and bands presented by the young adult group, HCO Cafe.

“We generally cater to the ‘college crowd’ age group, recent high school graduates and those in their 20s, but this event is open to all ages,” said member Rachel Aweau.

The youths are excited to present art pieces from Windward Community College students. HCO’s house band, Dropawater, will play for the first hour, followed by an open mic lineup of HCO members and WCC students.

“Dropawater will be playing some local style and old-school reggae,” Aweau said. “There will be a lot of Peter Tosh and Bob Marley, and a few original songs.”

This entire showcase, which is free, is designed as a platform for youths to share their talents, passions and hobbies, she added. “We realized that there are a lot of aspiring artists within our church as well as the surrounding communities. We want to get the attention of the community and encourage the arts in general, and display those in a positive manner.”

Church members cook up pupus for sale at the showcase.
