When PETCO staged its grand opening weekend in mid-July in Kaneohe, the company was able to adopt out several orphan dogs as well as promote animal care.
“Two dogs were adopted out Saturday and seven on Sunday,” said Kristin Herrick, Hawaiian Humane Society public relations coordinator. “The adoptions team initially took five dogs Sunday and they all found forever homes within 30 minutes!”
PETCO Kaneohe will continue to work with the humane society to find homes for animals. Each Sunday, starting in August, dogs will be up for adoption at the store. PETCO also works with Joey’s Feline Friends, a Kaneohebased nonprofit, no-kill shelter, to make cat adoptions easily accessible.
PETCO has stated its commitment to finding homes for animals and providing pet owners with great services, products and advice. The PETCO Foundation supports animal welfare groups across the country and helps to find homes for more than 200,000 animals each year.
Located next to Walgreen’s on the former Star Market site, PETCO Kaneohe has an aquatics department, full-service grooming, dog training and pet photography. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 2474340.
Those adopting pets at the grand opening were given Think Adoption First Care & Savings Booklets with up to 50 percent off PETCO supplies and services.
