After a standing-room-only crowd at its March 29 chemistry forum on tsunamis and landslides, Windward Community College has lined up two April programs for the public in Hale Imiloa 111.
* UH chemistry professor Marcus Tius will discuss “What Methods Are Used to Discover New Drugs?” at 1:30 p.m. April 13. Tius directs programs for Natural Products and Cancer Biology Research at the UH Cancer Center; he specializes in areas of total synthesis and development of new synthetic methods.
* Plant molecular biologist Frederick Perlak will discuss “Meeting Global Demands through Crop Innovations” at 1 p.m. April 18. Topics include breeding, biotechnology and investment to meet global demands. Honored for several discoveries leading to insect-resistant crops, Perlak works for Monsanto as vice president of research and business operations.
