Aloha,

Windward neighbors,  There is a difference between being prepared and being ready. You can have all of the supplies available and not be ready to face the disasters possible in Hawaii.

It’s not about being in reach of your supplies, it’s about your ability to survive because of your supplies.

Ask yourself these questions: If an earthquake occurs and it knocks you off your feet, what do you do if you are at home, at the beach, at work? If you can’t answer any one of these questions (with confidence), you could be a victim of a disaster.

The good news is that there is help to get you and your family prepared and ready to respond.

The first annual Kailua Emergency Readiness Fair will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sept 15 in Kailua Town Center on Hinano Way, close to the new Whole Foods store. Various federal, state, city and local agencies will be there with information and tips on how to make survival a possibility. Please check out our Facebook page, Kailua Readiness, for daily tips before and after the fair.

We hope that you will join us in our efforts to make the Windward side a “disaster ready” community.
