Mindful Matters Wellness Center has settled into Kailua will a variety of services and classes to help everyone.

“We are the only center where such comprehensive services are offered. Both psychological and physical problems are treated in an integrative, holistic manner,” explained Thomas Cummings, a licensed clinical psychologist and Kailua resident who owns and directs the center. “Both conventional and alternative medicine are applied.”

Located in the Kailua Medical Arts Building at 407 Uluniu St., the center offers a multi-disciplinary team delivering Western, preventative and palliative care. The staff includes naturopathic physician Allison Hogan, massage therapists Bryan Jordan and Valerie Collins, acupuncturist Sean Kumar, social worker Theresa Lyons and psychologist Leslie Morland, who specializes in post traumatic stress disorder and more.

“I don’t know of any other site in Hawaii that has all these components,” noted Cummings, who is trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, Mindfulnessbased psychotherapy, Buddhist psychology, etc.

He also teaches yoga, tai chi and meditation.

The center has been open for about a month and is working with patients in all of the disciplines offered. To balance out its services, Cummings said he still seeks an experienced acupuncture/targeted case management provider and experienced instructors in yoga, tai chi and mat Pilates.
