Following a public appeal last week, Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii has received support but as-yet no solid leads into the Dec. 17 theft of its $12,000 rough terrain vehicle.
The orange Kubota RTV is used for daily maintenance at the Waimanalo farm, which operates its therapeutic programs with 10 horses at the polo field. The Kubota also is key to hayrides, hauling duty and smoothing out puddles on the course. The nonprofit bought the farm vehicle in 2008 with a Gift Foundation grant.
“We sure can’t afford to buy another one,” said executive director Dana Vennen, “and I don’t know what we are going to do without it.” As of Dec. 21 no useful clues had come in, but two donations were received. “In the meantime,” she stated, “we are using the momentum to get things done and keep moving forward.”
In the past few months, thieves also have taken the farm’s projector, a camera, power tools and equipment, and the Polo Clubhouse generator. “I’m hoping it’s still around Waimanalo and someone sees it or hears something,” Vennen added. Witnesses and others with tips are asked to call 342-9036 or HPD.
