Aloha ‘Aina Earth Day in Kahaluu

Del.icio.usFor the second straight year, everybody won at the community recycling drive in Kahaluu. Known officially as Aloha ‘Aina Earth Day No. 29, the massive July 7 cleanup pulled together an amazing pile of junk and recyclables for the benefit of KualoaHeeia Ecumenical Youth Project (KEY). It also allowed the still-unopened Kahaluu Regional Park to be of some use to volunteers as a staging area for old appliances, car parts, containers, tires, batteries, green waste, cell phones, computers, ink cartridges and much more. Schnitzer Steel representative Rene Mansho presented a check for $4,800 to KEY’s board of directors Aug. 27. That’s $3,000 more than last year that the nonprofit agency can pour back into services for area families.
