The Windward Soroptimists held their major fundraiser, a gala dinner and auction, July 16 at the Marine base officers club. “We exceeded our expectations with attendees,” says president Marion Mullins, “and the food was really sumptuous.” More than 80 guests paid $50 or more to attend and enjoy the amenities. With music by Jazzy Jay Marion and a great list of items up for bid, Mullins says the event furthered the campaign against domestic violence in at least two ways. “We had the opportunity to spread the word about it as well as earn some much-needed funds for the Hale Ola spouse abuse shelter.” Avis Jervis, director of the Windward shelter, spoke at the gala, which featured the theme ‘Shine On, Honu Moon.’
