Tennis Finals Coming Up At Racquet Club

The Blue Moon Men’s Night Doubles are in full swing this week at Kailua Racquet Club as the main draw portion of the event plays out.
The 36th annual tournament began July 27 with the unseeded round that drew 32 doubles teams. Winners advanced to this week’s quarterfinal round to be pitted against eight seeded teams.
Quarterfinal matches were to be played both Tuesday and Thursday at 6 and 7:15 p.m. The semifinals are Thursday, with the finals at 7:15 p.m. Friday. Call 754-6349.
In their fifth tourney appearance, Michael Bruggemann and Erich Chen are the top-seeded team, having won the 2005 Night Doubles. They were eliminated in the quarterfinals in ‘01 and ‘02 before breaking through to win in 2003.In 2004, they were seeded No.1 but lost (6-3, 7-6, 6-2) to the tandem of Bradley Lum-Tucker and Ikaika Jobe. They rebounded last August to outlast a pair of former Santa Clara teammates, Taylor Bedilion and Chris Lam 7-5, 6-2.
The other seeded teams are (2) Ryan Ideta and Malino Oda; (3) Minh Le and Wei-Yu Su; (4) Anders Erikson and Trey Phillips; (5) Mikael Maatta and Jan Tribler; (6) Lum-Tucker and Jesse Paer; (7) Tim Didonatto and Nicholas Moxley; and (8) Martie Ishida and Hiram Oyama.
