Check-Out Hunger Breaks Record
The results of the Check-Out Hunger program have been announced, and thanks to the generosity of Hawaii’s shoppers, the 17th annual program raised a record-breaking $271,781, a 17 percent increase over last year. Making a difference each year, Check-Out Hunger is presented by Kraft Foods in Hawaii and retailers statewide, and helps feed Hawaii’s hungry during the holiday season. Participating retailers included Times Supermarkets, Safeway Stores, Don Quijote, Tamura’s Market, Tamura Superette, Tamura’s Fine Wine & Liquors, Kokua Market and KTA Super Stores. Banking On The Future

Sacred Heart Girls Take First Place
Gov. Neil Abercrombie announced Sacred Hearts Academy as first-place winners in the Real World Design Challenge (RWDC). This year’s challenge was to design the exterior geometry and internal structure of an airliner wing using cutting-edge software, with the end goal to reduce consumption of airliner fuel. The five Sacred Hearts Academy girls will represent Hawaii at the RWDC national competition in Washington, D.C., April 15-18, completing an additional challenge for the national competition.
