The Oahu Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was founded in April 2009 based on our mission: “Every healthy, treatable animal will find a forever home.”

Our mission is based on a no-kill philosophy, and we adhere to this statement by rescuing animals suffering from abuse, neglect or abandonment all over the island each day. On average, we rescue, rehabilitate and re-home up to 20 dogs and cats per week. We care for more than 50 dogs and 100 cats per day. This includes spay/neutering, micro-chipping and all medical and behavioral rehabilitation in preparation for adoption.

Within three months after we were established, 400 animals were relinquished to the Oahu SPCA in the largest rescue in the history of Hawaii. We were thrown into a large-scale sheltering operation literally overnight. Our temporary shelter at 1142 Roosevelt Ave. in Kapolei is donated courtesy of Hunt Development Group, and now we are working diligently to establish a permanent shelter and a state-of-the-art spay/neuter clinic.

We must find an individual, business or group to sponsor our permanent facility in the next few months. The renovation and construction costs to establish a permanent facility will be approximately $200,000, and the necessary surgical equipment will cost approximately $50,000. We will recognize our major donors on the entry arch of our new shelter.

As a volunteer-driven organization, most of the funds we raise are used for the care and treatment of our rescued animals. The Oahu SPCA does not receive government or state funding. We rely primarily on private, tax-deductible donations and our volunteers.
