Local Media Come Together

It’s been a trying time for our neighbors across the Pacific. In recent months, they’ve had to endure a tsunami in American Samoa, several typhoons in the Philippines and an earthquake in Indonesia.
Seeing the graphic images of the devastation and the touching interviews with survivors, it didn’t take us long at Clear Channel to realize we needed to step up and reach out in some way for support from our communities in Hawaii.
I gathered our planning team together and we developed “Kokua For The Pacific,” a fundraising event that will bring together some of Hawaii’s best entertainers for an afternoon of songs, laughs and inspiration on Nov. 15 at Aloha Tower Marketplace.
We realized the devastation in the Pacific required a much larger community outreach, and we wanted to include all those in the community who wished to participate - and so this became an inclusive, noncommercial event.

I contacted Oceanic Time Warner cable and my counterparts in the Hawaii television media community, and they all agreed to assist. As a result, I’m pleased to announce that “Kokua For The Pacific” will be a local radio, television and Internet fundraising event and a model for media and community cooperation. All local television stations will provide live coverage, as will KSSK AM/FM and Island 98.5. In addition, OC 16 and Clear Channel Radio Hawaii will air the event live on the Web.
As a board member of the Hawaii Chapter of the American Red Cross, I realized that it was the perfect organization to administer disaster relief funds. Subsequently, all proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross for disaster relief.
Please help us support our friends in need across the Pacific by attending the live concert or watching or listening and pledging on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at The Waterfront at Aloha Tower Marketplace.
